Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge: Book #1

Oh hello there! I hope this post finds you happy and healthy and safe.  With the chaos of our world right now, I'm hoping my little space on the internet will bring you a welcomed distraction.  I am so excited to share the very first book we read from the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge: The Wizard of Oz! When Caroline told me she wanted to start with this book, I was not the last bit surprised - it is her absolute favorite book! And since she had two copies of the book, it made it a quick and easy first pick.

Before I get into the review, I'd like to add a little disclaimer: Caroline and I started this journey back in September, but due to COVID-19, I finally felt like I could make time to start doing blog posts again.  So the first few books I will be catching up from books I read a while back.

Reason I picked this book: It was a no brainer! This is Caroline's favorite book so we had to start with this book.

What is this book about? Regarded as a modern fairy tale, L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz is one of America’s most cherished and enchanting children’s stories.

Part of the Macmillan Collector’s Library; a series of stunning, clothbound, pocket sized classics with gold foiled edges and ribbon markers. These beautiful books make perfect gifts or a treat for any book lover. This edition features original illustrations by W. W. Denslow, coloured by Barbara Frith, and an afterword by Professor Sarah Churchwell.

Follow Dorothy, and her loyal dog Toto, as they are carried away from Kansas by a cyclone to the wonderful world of Oz. Wandering down the yellow brick road Dorothy meets her three famous companions – a Scarecrow longing for a brain, a Tin Woodman wishing for a heart, a cowardly Lion yearning for some courage – and together they travel to the illustrious Emerald City where they hope all their dreams will come true.

Recommended for: Anyone who is still a child at heart.

Something to know: Dorothy's shoes are not the color everyone has come to know them to be! I won't totally ruin the surprise, but I was surprised that they were not red.

Overall rating: 5.0 stars out of 5.
If you have not had a chance to read this book, I highly recommend reading it! The writing is very simple (which makes sense given the age of the book), but it was a very enjoyable read.
