Books I Read in January and February

Friday, March 6, 2026

Hello and happy Friday friends! I can’t believe we’re already a couple of months into 2026! Time really flies, but I managed to sneak in some reading during January and February. I love starting the year with a fresh stack of books—it feels like setting a cozy, inspiring tone for the months ahead.

This post is a little roundup of all the books I’ve read so far. Some had me laughing out loud, some tugged at my heart, and others completely surprised me. I’m sharing my quick thoughts on each one, and of course, I’d love to hear what you’ve been reading too! I'm not sure if you're like me, but I tend to start the year off slowly when reading - not sure if it's the weather or what but I feel like I tend to hibernate more during the first few months of the year.

🌟 January Reads

Priest - Sierra Simone
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

Mood: Dark romance, forbidden love, taboo romance

Quick thoughts: Overall, I enjoyed the story. It's not something that I would normally have picked up for myself, but because it was for a book club I decided to partake. I appreciate that Sierra Simone focused on the fact that Father Tyler did not just give into temptation and struggled with his desires.

Favorite part: I love a book that gives us the internal monologue of characters, and this one did not disappoint.

Would I recommend it? If you are comfortable reading about a priest's struggle with lust, then I think it's worth the read

Buy the Book: Amazon | Barnes and Noble

Dating After the End of the World - Jeneva Rose
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

Mood: Exciting, suspenseful, funny

Quick thoughts: If you like zombie stories, then this book is 100% for you. The story goes fast and gets right into the apocalypse which makes it exciting from the very beginning.

Favorite part: I really enjoyed how sarcastic the main characters were. I really appreciate when characters tell full truths and don't hold back and they did not in this book.

Would I recommend it? If you don't mind a little bit of gore and chaos, then I would recommend this book to you. It's different for Jeneva Rose and was a fun story.

Buy the Book: Amazon | Barnes and Noble

🌸 February Reads

All the Colors of the Dark – Chris Whitaker
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5)

Mood: Suspenseful, overwhelming, though-provoking

Quick thoughts: This is the second time I’ve read this book, and I loved it just as much – if not more- the second time I read the book. I think this will quickly be a book that I read every year because I love it so much.

Favorite part: I can’t say too much without giving anything away, but my favorite character is Sammy. If you’ve read the book, then you know why.

Would I recommend it? I don’t have anything else to say that you should read this immediately. It’s so good.

Buy the Book: Amazon | Barnes and Noble

Hear My Heart by Tay Mo’Nae
⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

Mood: Sweet, taboo, cozy

Quick thoughts: This was not my absolute favorite romance that I’ve read recently, but I enjoyed the story and really appreciate the deaf representation. And some of the scenes were great.

Favorite part: I enjoyed how she found a family of her own when her fiancΓ© was out of commission. I appreciate that people around her worked to accommodate her disability and acknowledged her when she was struggling.

Would I recommend it? If you want a book that his disability and bipoc representation, then I would say yes.

Buy the Book: Amazon | Barnes and Noble

πŸ“š Books I started

If you’ve been around for a while, then you know that I tend to read a bunch of books simultaneously and the last few months were no exception. Here are a few books I started during the last few months:
  1. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
  2. Best Offer Wins by Marisa Kashino
  3. Things God’s Break by Abigail Owen
  4. Quicksilver by Callie Heart (this is a restart)
  5. Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman

Reflections on the First Two Months

Looking back at my reading so far, I notice a few trends in my choices. Maybe I’m drawn to mysteries and romances right now, or maybe I just needed a few comforting reads to start the year. Either way, it’s been so fun seeing what I gravitate toward when the world is still waking up in January and February.

A few books I know I’ll be recommending to friends right away are All the Colors of the Dark and Dungeon Crawler Carl, while others I might keep in my “re-read someday” pile. And honestly, some… well, let’s just say they won’t be making it to my favorite list—but that’s okay! Not every book has to be a five-star experience. πŸ˜…

One of my favorite parts about reading is that it’s such a personal journey. Sometimes a book can perfectly capture a feeling you’ve been carrying around, or it can transport you to a completely new world. Either way, there’s always something to take away—and that’s what keeps me coming back to my TBR (to-be-read) pile, no matter how big it gets.

I’d love to hear what you’ve been reading so far this year! Any books that completely surprised you, made you laugh, or even just gave you a little comfort when you needed it? Drop your recommendations in the comments—I’m always looking for my next page-turner. πŸ“šπŸ’›

Here’s to a year full of amazing stories, cozy reading nooks, and plenty of time spent lost in pages.

Have a wonderful day,
Jackie

How I'm Prepping for Spring Cleaning this Spring

Thursday, March 5, 2026

Hello and happy Thursday friends! I don't know about you, but when the weather gets warm in Michigan I just get the urge to clean. There’s just something about a little bit of warmth that makes me want to open the windows, light a fresh candle, and reset my entire life. πŸ˜‚ The sunshine starts peeking through again, and suddenly I can see the dust.

If you’re anything like me, spring cleaning can feel overwhelming… but it doesn’t have to be. Over the years, I’ve learned that keeping it simple (and realistic!) makes all the difference. So today I’m sharing my easy, low-stress approach to organizing and decluttering for spring — plus some checklists you can use as a starting point.

Let’s make our homes feel fresh without burning ourselves out πŸ’›

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase through my links — at no extra cost to you. I only share products I genuinely love and use in my own home. Thank you so much for supporting my blog! ✨

Step 1: Start With a Plan (Not a Panic)

Before I touch a single drawer, I like to:

  • Walk through each room
  • Make a short list of “problem areas”
  • Decide what actually needs attention this month

Instead of saying “I’m deep cleaning the whole house,” I break it down into small zones.

For example:

  • Week 1: Kitchen
  • Week 2: Bedroom + Closet
  • Week 3: Bathroom
  • Week 4: Living Areas
  • Week 5 and beyond: Other less accessed living spaces like the basement and the garage

You can adjust this based on your schedule, but having a loose plan makes everything feel so much more manageable. Or if you have an area that you want to focus more heavily on, maybe give yourself a few weeks on that area instead of just the one week.

Step 2: My Go-To Decluttering Method

When I’m decluttering, I keep it simple with three categories:

  • Keep
  • Donate
  • Toss/Recycle

If I haven’t used it, worn it, or thought about it in the last year… it’s probably time to let it go. (I say this lovingly as someone who used to keep everything “just in case.”)

If I do not have a box handy to use for donations, I'll either use a clothing hamper or clear tote to organize everything as I go. If you're detailed like I am, I will even put a label on each one so that I don't accidentally put something in the wrong bin.

A few questions I ask myself:

  • Do I actually use this?
  • Would I buy this again today?
  • Does this add value to my daily life?

If I am not 100% certain I am ready to part with something, I will make a note for myself to check back in about six months and if I haven't used or needed that item in six months, it's likely time to say goodbye. Obviously, sentimental and heirloom items do not fall in this category. Those will be organized and stored until they can be passed down.

March Spring Cleaning Checklist

To help make the Spring Cleaning process easier, I created a little checklist you can use to keep track of things for yourself this Spring. To download the file and print it off, all you have to do is click the image below and you'll be taken to my Google drive to download a copy for yourself.

Easy Strategies That Make It Feel Less Overwhelming

Here are a few things that help me actually stick to spring cleaning:

1. Set a Timer

I’ll set a 20–30 minute timer and focus on just one space. When the timer goes off, I’m done. No spiraling into reorganizing my entire existence. To help myself from getting distracted on my phone, I have used little timers from Amazon that make it so I'm not watching my phone.

2. Clean While Listening to Something Cozy

This is when I put on:

  • An audiobook
  • A comfort show in the background
  • A podcast

Depending on how much time I have, I will pick what I listen to based on that. If I have only an hour or so, I'll grab a podcast that is about that long and clean/organize until the episode ends. If I am just going with no end time, I'll either do music or listen to my latest audiobook. It makes it feel less like a chore and more like productive self-care.

3. Don’t Aim for Perfection

My home doesn’t need to look like a magazine spread. It just needs to feel peaceful and functional. That mindset shift has been huge for me. I feel like once I released myself from the need for perfection, I was able to really enjoy my space. Plus, I have been finding that the less I have in my house that I don't need, the less overwhelmed that I feel.

The Real Goal of Spring Cleaning

For me, spring cleaning isn’t about having a perfectly aesthetic house. It’s about creating a space that feels calm, fresh, and ready for a new season.

March feels like a reset button — and cleaning is part of that reset.

Even if you just clear off one counter or donate one bag of clothes, that still counts. Progress > perfection.

If you’re doing spring cleaning this month, tell me:

  • What room are you tackling first?
  • What’s the hardest area for you to declutter?
  • Are you team “all in one weekend” or “little by little”?

Let’s motivate each other 🌷✨

Have a wonderful day,
Jackie

My {Updated} Self-Care Routine

Wednesday, March 4, 2026

Over the past few months, I’ve been trying to be more intentional about how I take care of myself. Not in a “wake up at 5 AM and meditate for an hour” kind of way (because… absolutely not πŸ˜‚), but in a realistic, sustainable way that actually fits my life.

Today I wanted to share my updated self-care routine — the little things I’ve been doing lately that help me feel grounded, cozy, and like the best version of myself. As always, take what resonates and leave the rest πŸ’›

This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you choose to make a purchase through my links — at no additional cost to you. I only share products and resources that I genuinely love and use myself. Thank you so much for supporting my blog and allowing me to keep creating cozy content for you! ✨

πŸ“š Reading Time (My Favorite Form of Self-Care)

If you know me, you know reading is at the top of my self-care list. There is just something about curling up with a good book that instantly resets my mood.

Lately, I’ve been:

  • Reading for 30 minutes before bed
  • Keeping my current read on my nightstand or close by me when possible
  • Mixing in both physical books, audio books and my Kindle
  • Participating in book clubs, reading sprints, or monthly challenges to keep the reading interesting

I’ve also been trying to make my reading time feel extra special by:

  • Creating a cozy little reading corner
  • Lighting a candle
  • Putting my phone on Do Not Disturb

It doesn’t have to be long. Even 15–20 minutes makes a difference for me.

🧴 Skincare as a Ritual (Not a Chore)

If we're being 100% transparent, my skincare has been lacking for quite some time. Thankfully, I have the type of skin that doesn't require much maintenance, so I have survived that period fairly unscathed.  Now, I try to treat it like a mini wake up and wind-down routine that is special for me.

My current lineup includes:

At night, I’ve been slowing down and actually enjoying the process — gentle music on, warm lighting, no rushing. It’s such a small shift, but it makes the end of the day feel calmer.

Skincare has become less about “fixing” anything and more about caring for myself consistently. And I have found that I have less flare ups on my face as I keep up with my skin care routine.

🧹 House Cleaning & Maintenance (Romanticizing the Reset)

Okay hear me out — cleaning has officially become part of my self-care routine.

Not in an overwhelming, deep-clean-the-entire-house way. More like little resets that make my space feel calm and functional.

Here’s what that looks like for me:

  • A quick nightly tidy (clearing counters, fluffing pillows, loading the dishwasher)
  • One focused cleaning task per day
  • A Sunday reset to prepare for the week
  • Keeping up with laundry before it becomes a mountain

There is something about waking up to a clean kitchen or walking into a tidy living room that just instantly lowers my stress levels.

I’ve also started making it more enjoyable by:

  • Playing a podcast or audiobook
  • Setting a 20-minute timer
  • Lighting a candle once everything is clean

Future me is always grateful when present me takes 15–30 minutes to maintain the house. If you'd like me to share my weekly routine, let me know!

🍽️ Meal Planning = Future Me Says Thank You

I used to think that meals had to be this big, planned out event, but I have found that if I sit down every Sunday and figure out what I want to eat for the week my life is just easier (and less expensive).

Now, I focus on simple and quick meals:

  • When possible, I use the crockpot or air fryer
  • Planning meals that take either one pan or one pot to cook to make the clean up less overwhelming
  • Having a rotation of meals that hubby and I both like so that we can quickly put a meal together

It saves me so much stress during the week and makes it easier to nourish myself well — especially on busy days.

Self-care isn’t always bubble baths. Sometimes it’s making sure you have food planned so you’re not scrambling at 7 PM.

What Self-Care Looks Like for Me Right Now

Right now, self-care looks like:

  • Going to bed a little earlier
  • Saying no without over-explaining
  • Protecting my reading time
  • Keeping my home feeling calm and manageable
  • Choosing consistency over perfection

It’s not glamorous. It’s not aesthetic every day. But it feels steady — and that’s what I needed.

I’d love to know — what’s one small thing you’ve added to your routine lately that’s made a difference? πŸ’¬

Let me know in the comments.

Have a wonderful day,
Jackie

My March Shopping Wishlist πŸŒΈπŸ›️

Tuesday, March 3, 2026

Hello friends and happy Tuesday! Can we just take a minute to appreciate that March is here? The days are getting longer, spring vibes are in the air, and honestly… my shopping list is growing faster than the daffodils!  I thought I’d share a little peek at what I’m loving this month—fashion finds, accessories, and a few home decor treats that are giving me all the cozy and cheerful feels.

Heads up -  Some links in this post may be affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase—at no extra cost to you. Thank you so much for supporting my blog!

Fashion Finds I’m Crushing On

When shopping for new clothing, I am constantly considering whether or not I really need something. Of course, I can appreciate any item I come across and these are a few of the ones that really caught my attention.

  • The Somerset Maxi DressWhy I’m obsessed: It is so elegant without a ton of effort. I love a dress that can be worn for multiple occasions - wear with a pair of natural toned heels or throw on a cute pair of sneakers and go. Plus, you can layer on a cardigan or jacket for wearability if the weather is a bit chillier than you expected.
  • Wearable Blanket PonchoWhy I’m obsessed: This time of year the temperature goes from freezing to warm in a matter of hours so this item is perfect for those days where you start your day absolutely freezing. The best part, you can easily layer with this so that you don't have to be stuck roasting by the time the afternoon hits.

I’m really drawn to pieces that are multi-functional this month, and I can’t wait to add them to my closet (even if I have to safe up for a little bit).

Accessories That Make Me Happy

  • Sylvie Waterproof Earring SetWhy I love it: I am always looking for items that match without a lot of effort. These earrings work because I have multiple piercings and I would easily be able to incorporate them into any outfit as they are both gold and silver.  PLUS, they are waterproof so I wouldn't have to worry about taking them out when I shower.

  • Siena Flowers BirkenstocksWhy I love it: I saw these in a catalog that Birkenstock sent me and I was immediately in love with them. Not only are they so cute, they're a different pattern than I have ever seen before. I know Birks can be a bit expensive, but I will say that I have never had a pair that I didn't like.

A few fun accessories are all it takes to refresh an outfit, and these are definitely top of my wishlist this month. πŸ’•

Home Decor I’m Dreaming About

  • Dried Flowers Small Table Lamp – Why I love it: This may look familiar to you all from a post a few days ago, but I fell in LOVE with this when I was putting together that post. Not only is it portable, it is rechargable so it will be easy to incorporate with any decoration in the house.

  • Spring Juice GlassesWhy I love it: I have been eying juice cups for a while now - especially the ones with the decoration on them. I love that they're so cute and also functional. I almost bought some with bows on them last month but decided to hold off. Now I am thinking it may be the right time to get some because there are SO many cute options.

I’m all about adding little touches that make my home feel warm and happy, especially as we start to welcome spring. I noticed while I was perusing the internet for Spring decor and clothing that there is a large trend for pastel greens and I am so excited. It is one of my favorite colors and it will make it so easy to shop for me.

That’s my little March shopping wishlist! πŸ›️πŸ’–

What about you? Any pieces, accessories, or home goodies that are catching your eye this month? Drop them in the comments—I’m always looking for fun new things to add to my list! πŸ’Œ

5 Quick and Easy Recipes for Busy Weeknights

Monday, March 2, 2026

Hey friends! 🌟

If you’re anything like me, weeknights can be a bit hectic. Between work, errands, and trying to sneak in a little me-time, the last thing I want is a complicated meal that takes forever to make. That’s why I love having a few simple, go-to weeknight meals that are both delicious and easy to whip up. Tonight, I’m sharing five of our favorite recipes for busy weeksplus a few tips for making weeknight dinners as stress-free as possible.

1. Skillet Lasagna - Lil' Luna

If you love lasagna, but don't love the time and mess of lasagna, then I would highly recommend checking out Lil' Luna's Skillet Lasagna. It is so easy to make, only takes one pan and the left overs are so delicious.

Quick Tip: You can substitute ground turkey or chicken in exchange for the beef and it is just as delicious. I imaging it would be very good with Italian sausage as well.

Find the recipe here: Lil' Luna's Skillet Lasagna

2. One Pan Roasted Sausage and Veggies - My Mommy Style

When we are having a crazy busy week, this is a meal that often pops up because it is so easy and it also creates very little mess. I found the recipe over on My Mommy Style's blog and she shared it as a meal prepping tip; however, this makes a good quick dinner too.

When we make ours, we use  turkey sausage, broccoli and sweet potatoes; however, you can use any veggie or potato that cooks well in an oven.

Meal Prep Tip: Cutting your potatoes down into smaller sizes makes the cooking time go faster and the potatoes less prone to crunchiness. We also serve this over rice, but you can eat it without.

3. Creamy White Lasagna Soup by Half Baked Harvest

I am a sucker for a good soup no matter what time of year it is and when my friend recommended this one to me last year, it quickly became a household staple. There is nothing better than a crock pot meal that is easy to get started and does not require much thought. Not to mention, it is sooooooooooo delicious.

Pro Tip: The recipe calls for red pepper flakes. If you are not a spicy kinda person, I would advise either not putting them at all or adding them after serving. The soup was very good without the spice, but just wanted to make you aware.

4. Cheeseburger Orzo by Slimming Violet

I'm not quite sure how my husband and I found this recipe, but we have been on an orzo kick lately and this one sounded good. Not to mention, you only need one pan and minimum ingredients to make the meal. I think the thing I could most compare the taste to is Hamburger Helper, but better.

Pro Tip: Depending on how much you like mustard, I would make adjustments on the amount. We found that a 1/4 cup was a bit too much for us so we have adjusted down some. AND, don't be afraid to experiment with other cheeses or ingredients. It changes the taste but is still so good. Just make sure to pick things that you know you enjoy with ketchup and mustard.

Another quick and easy crock pot meal where you just dump everything and go. I think this is one of my favorite ones because, like other meals, you can change up what you put in there depending on your preference. Not to mention, it smells amazing as it's cooking and makes the whole house smell good.

Pro Tip: This recipe can be eaten several different ways. I've eaten it as a soup or as tacos in the past depending on what mood strikes me. Plus, it is very good leftover.

Weeknight dinners don’t have to be complicated to be delicious. With a few easy recipes in your rotation, you can enjoy cozy meals without the stress. ✨

Do you have any favorite quick weeknight dinners? Drop them in the comments—I’m always looking for new ideas! πŸ’–

Have a wonderful day,

OPERATION MINCEMEAT: A NEW MUSICAL: Fisher Theatre | January 12 – 24, 2027

Olivier Award winner for Best New Musical and a 2025 Tony ® winner, Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical is the best-reviewed show in West End history with 88 five-star reviews and the #1 Broadway Show of 2025 (Entertainment Weekly).
