tuesday things: What I'm Watching

Happy Tuesday everyone! So glad to be chatting with you all again.  How are you doing in the midst of this chaotic time we are seeing right now? I know for me, some days are great while others are... not so great.  Some days I feel like I am totally okay with everything that is happening, then other days I am not okay.  Like on Friday when I "saw" my mom (she picked up groceries I had delivered/disinfected for her) and was not able to hug her.  It is in those moments that I get sad - I really just want to hug my mom.

But in the middle of all of this, I have finally had time to watch some shows on Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video that I never thought I would have had the time to watch and today I thought I would share those videos with you all.  So here are five shows I have watched over the past month that I enjoyed/could not stop watching:

1. The Witcher

Synopsis:

The Witcher is an American fantasy drama series produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. It is based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.
Set on a fictional, medieval-inspired landmass known as "the Continent", The Witcher explores the legend of Geralt of Rivia and princess Ciri, who are linked by destiny to each other.  It stars Henry CavillFreya Allan and Anya Chalotra. The show initially follows the three main protagonists at different points of time, exploring formative events that shaped their characters, before eventually merging into a single timeline.

My Thoughts:

If you enjoy shows like Game of Thrones, then you might like The Witcher.  This show grabs your right away and sucks in you into the world of the witcher.  I was immediately intrigued by Geralt of Rivia and wanted to know more about him as a character.  We spend the first season learning about him and his history and watching him pursue different bounties - but we never really know why he is as he is until the end of the first season.  I cannot wait for the second season to be released so we can see more of Geralt and the many other characters in the first season of The Witcher.  There have been rumblings of a second season to be released in 2021, and I hope those rumors are true because I want to see more of this show in the future.

Where to Watch: Netflix

2. The Circle

Synopsis:

The Circle is an American reality competition series, which first aired on Netflix in January 2020 that is based on a British TV series of the same name.  The series bills itself as a game based around social media, with the concept that "anyone can be anyone in The Circle."
Within the show, contestants are isolated with their own apartments, and can only communicate to the other contestants via "The Circle", ostensibly a computer program which transcribes their messages into text as if in a social media app. Contestants are thus able to present completely different identities to the others to hopefully win them over. Every so often, the group of contestants are asked to rate their fellow contestants, with the top vote-getters becoming the "Influencers" of the Circle, giving them the power to "block" one contestant from the circle, eliminating them from the game.

My Thoughts:

I was initially intrigued by this show because of the social experiment aspect of this show.  Can someone show up to the show and actually be their true selves and win the whole show? Honestly, I did not think that was possible.  But through the twists and turns of the show, I fell in love with some of the participants and genuinely wanted to see them succeed as they played the role of themselves 100%.  If you like reality television with a little social experiment, then I would highly recommend The Circle.

Where to Watch: Netflix

3. Stranger Things (Season 3)

Synopsis:

In the summer of 1985 in Hawkins, the newly opened Starcourt Mall has become the focal point of the town, driving other stores out of business. Hawkins chief of police Jim Hopper is conflicted over Eleven and Mike's budding relationship, while Joyce considers moving out of Hawkins for better prospects, leaving the state of the children's friendships and her own relationship with Hopper in the air. However, strange power fluctuations trigger Will's awareness of something otherworldly, and Eleven and Max sense something is off about the town's residents, and despite having closed the portal to the Upside Down, fear that they are all still in danger from it.

My Thoughts:

First of all, I do not know why the in the WORLD I waited this long to watch the third season! I thoroughly enjoyed the first two seasons, but for whatever reason I just "did not have the time" to watch the most recent season of Stranger Things.  And I must say, I regret waiting a long as I did to watch it. This season was exciting and also very comical.  If you have not had a chance to watch this season, I highly recommend checking it out.

Where to Watch: Netflix

4. Making the Cut

Synopsis:

Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn's latest TV venture really isn't all that different from Project RunwayA fashion competition show, Making the Cut will follow 12 entrepreneurs and designers from all over the world as they battle each other to grow their young fashion brands. The winner will take home $1 million to invest in his or her brand and the opportunity to create an exclusive line for Amazon Fashion.

My Thoughts:

When I saw that Heidi and Time were making a new show, I was super excited.  I have always loved Project Runway and was sad to see them leave the show when the show moved over to a new network.  So, of course, when they announced they would be doing a new designer show on Amazon Prime Video, I jumped for joy at the chance to watch them in action again.  While this show is different than their previous adventures, there is a lot of differences and I cannot wait to see where this show goes (at the time of posting, the first season is only three episodes in).

Where to Watch: Amazon Prime Video

5. Big Little Lies

Synopsis:

Big Little Lies is an American drama television series based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty.  It premiered on HBO on February 19, 2017.
Big Little Lies stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern, and Zoë Kravitz, and tells the story of five women in Monterey, California who become embroiled in a murder investigation.

My Thoughts

Another show that I am wondering why in the world I waited so long to watch - yet here I am talking about a show that I have watched since the beginning of March.  This show intrigued me because you knew that something happened, but you don't know the whole story.  The directors did a good job giving you enough information to keep you intrigued and coming back for more. I cannot wait to see what they do with a third season of this show because I love all the actors on the show and I cannot wait to see what happens to each individual character.  I fully intend on purchasing the book to read before the next season airs.

Where to Watch: HBO

So that is the five shows I am sharing for today! I actually have watched other shows outside of these, but figured it's easier to share 5 at time then in a few weeks I will share some more shows with you all that I have watched/am currently watching.  Have you watched any of the above shows? If so, let me know on social media! I'd love to have someone to discuss the shows with - or at the very least have someone to talk about how handsome Henry Cavill is (especially in The Witcher)! Let me know in the comments below what you think of the shows! I'd love to hear your opinion(s).
