My Simple Weekly Cleaning Routine (That Actually Keeps My Home Tidy)

Tuesday, March 24, 2026

If you’ve ever felt like keeping your house clean is a full-time job… same. ๐Ÿ™‹‍♀️

For the longest time, I would either try to clean everything in one day (and burn out), or ignore it until it got overwhelming. Neither worked.

So I finally landed on a routine that feels realistic, manageable, and honestly kind of satisfying:
๐Ÿ‘‰ I focus on 5 simple tasks every single day, and then
๐Ÿ‘‰ I rotate one area of my home each day of the week

It’s not perfect, but it keeps my home feeling lived-in clean—and that’s the goal.

✨ The 5 Things I Do Every Day

These are my non-negotiables. No matter how busy or tired I am, I try to get these done:

1. Make the bed
It instantly makes the whole bedroom feel cleaner—even if nothing else gets done.

2. Do the dishes (or at least stay on top of them)
A full sink = instant chaos. A clean sink = peace.

3. Wipe down kitchen counters
This takes maybe 2 minutes but makes such a difference.

4. Do one load of laundry (wash, dry, and fold)
This helps me keep up on laundry so I am not panic cleaning laundry on the weekends. I also while I'm in the laundry room clean the litter so that it gets scooped every day.

5. Quick tidy/reset
I spend 10–15 minutes putting things back where they belong.

๐Ÿก My Weekly Cleaning Breakdown

Instead of trying to deep clean everything at once, I assign one area to each day:

Monday – Bathrooms
Toilets, sinks, mirrors, and a quick floor clean.

Tuesday – Kitchen Deep Clean
Wiping appliances, cleaning the sink, tackling the fridge/pantry (if needed).

Wednesday – Living Spaces
Dusting, vacuuming, fluffing pillows, general reset.

Thursday – Bedrooms
Change sheets, dust surfaces, organize nightstands.

Friday – Floors + Catch-All Day
Vacuum, mop, and catch anything I missed during the week.

Weekend – Light Maintenance Only
I try to rest here—just the daily 5 tasks and that’s it. If necessary, I will spend a few minutes cleaning out the cars and organizing anything that needs organized.

๐Ÿ’ก Why This Routine Works for Me

  • It’s flexible (if I miss a day, I just pick back up)
  • It keeps things from piling up
  • It feels doable, even on busy days
  • It removes the “where do I even start?” feeling

Most importantly—it helps me stay consistent without feeling overwhelmed.

๐Ÿงบ A Few Things That Help Me Stay On Track

  • A good all-purpose cleaner I actually like using
  • Microfiber cloths (I keep them everywhere)
  • A laundry basket in multiple rooms
  • A simple printable checklist

๐Ÿ’ญ Final Thoughts

I’m definitely not someone with a perfectly clean house 24/7—and I don’t think that’s realistic anyway.

This routine just helps me keep things under control so I can spend less time stressing about cleaning and more time enjoying my space.

If you have a cleaning routine you swear by, I’d love to hear it ๐Ÿค
