Strawberry Picking 2021 {07.16.2021}

Hello and happy Friday everyone! I hope this post is finding you happy, healthy and looking forward to a fun weekend ahead.  Tomorrow we are heading out to my friend's wedding reception.  Last month I went to Montana to watch her marry her best friend and tomorrow we're celebrating in Michigan with those that were not able to make it to Montana.  I am working on a blog post about our trip to Montana, but it's taking a while to weed through the 500+ photos I took while we were there - so be on the look out for that post.

If you have been around the blog for any amount of time, then you should remember that we go strawberry picking every year for my mother-in-law's birthday.  So today I wanted to share a few photos from our visit.

We started this tradition in 2012 as a way for all of us to get together and celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday and it is one of my favorite holidays we have as a family.  Every year we pick a weekend in June to go to our local strawberry field, Spicer's Orchards, to pick strawberries.  If you are local to Michigan and have not had a chance to make your way to Spicer's, I would highly recommend.  They have a ton of things to do - fruit picking, winery, animal farm, etc. - and they are always so friendly there.

This year we met at Spicer's early in the morning to avoid the heat - is anyone experiencing a warmer than normal summer? I think the whole of the U.S. is experiencing warmer-than-normal temperatures.  We actually ended up getting lucky because the day we went was cooler and lovely out.  We always start our day out by getting some donuts from the store while we wait for the tractor, then we make our way out to the strawberry field for picking.

We all scatter a little bit and find a spot we find good for picking berries and get to work.  The berries this year were such a beautiful color and so much larger than in years past.  I am not sure if it's because it's been warm or if it's because we went earlier, but either way I was very impressed with the berries.  Once everyone has had some time to pick their berries, we hop back on the tractor and make our way back to have our strawberries weighed and pay for the berries.

This year we made our way into the winery to get some wine/hard cider because it happened to open right as we were finishing up picking.  I really love going into their winery because they have some really great options of wines and this year I actually picked up a bottle of their rose as well.  I'm hoping to plan a small brunch with a few girlfriends and share the rose with the girls.

Once we've packed up our berries in the car, we always ask someone to grab a photo of all of us before we make our way home to start canning/freezing berries.  Here is our photo from 2021:

And just for fun/sentimental, here's the first photo I have of all of us strawberry picking:

It is amazing to see how much we all have changed and how much Spicer's has changed.  This picture was taken in 2012, just a few months before my niece was born.  Now she is almost 9! I cannot believe how time has flown.

Well I think that is everything I have for today! I hope you have a wonderful weekend.  Talk with you next week.
