March Book Review {03.31.24}

Hello friends and happy Easter! I hope you have a wonderful day today filled with peace, love and joy.  We will be spending time with our parents this afternoon for brunch.  I have a goal in 2024 to read a total of 12 books (which I know is fairly low, but in years passed it has been difficult for me).  So for 2024, I refocused myself and while I anticipate reading more than 12 book books this year, I thought one book a month is a good goal.

If you want to get any of these books for yourself, click on the picture or the name of the book below and it will take you to Amazon where you can buy the book for yourself.  Heads up: I am an Amazon Associate so if you purchase with my link I could make a small commission.

So without further adieu...here's my March book review.

Book #1 this month was:

The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox

All they want for Christmas is a different life.
When chef Charlie Goodwin gets hit on the head on the L.A. set of her reality baking show, she loses a lot more than consciousness; she also loses her ability to taste and smell—both critical to her success as show judge. Meanwhile, Charlie's identical twin, Cass, is frantically trying to hold her own life together back in their quaint mountain hometown while running the family's bustling bakery and dealing with her ex, who won't get the memo that they're over.
With only days until Christmas, a desperate Charlie asks Cass to do something they haven't done since they were kids: switch places. Looking for her own escape from reality, Cass agrees. But temporarily trading lives proves more complicated than they imagined, especially when rugged firefighter Jake Greenman and gorgeous physician assistant Miguel Rodriguez are thrown into the mix. Will the twins' identity swap be a recipe for disaster, or does it have all the right ingredients for getting their lives back on track?

My friend, Danielle, mailed this book to me from her Book of the Month Box and I really enjoyed the book! It's a fun holiday-themed book filled with love, decisions and family expectations.  If you like a light-hearted and enjoyable read I would definitely recommend adding this book to your TBR pile.

Book #2:

Libby Ballard, director of the history museum in the small town of Dogwood Springs, Missouri, can’t believe her good luck. Cordell Calhoun, the king of spicy fried chicken, is celebrating his 70th birthday by returning to his hometown to donate to several organizations, including the museum.
But tensions run high when Cordell insists on inviting his entire family, including his two ex-wives, their offspring, and his young third wife, Brittany, to the donor reception at the museum. The family dynamic is a ticking time bomb, and it's only a matter of minutes before someone explodes.
Libby’s caught in the middle of the family drama but determined to make the event a success. Determined, that is, until Brittany drops dead at the reception. With the police veering off in the wrong direction and each faction of the family pointing fingers at the other, Libby realizes she needs to step in to solve the mystery, bring the culprit to justice, and clear the museum's name.
But in a situation rife with secrets and deceit, she'll need to tread carefully, or she may become the next victim in a deadly family feud.

I made through all of the books that Sally Bayless that have been published to date and I'm so sad.  I really have been loving her stories.  They keep you engaged but it is not so intense that you get overwhelmed.  The story continues with more twists than any other story and I really enjoyed the story.  The good news is she has another book releasing in the next few months and I am so excited.
Book #3:

A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas
Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin's actions and learn what she can about the invading king threatening to bring her land to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit. One slip could bring doom not only for Feyre, but for everything-and everyone-she holds dear.
As war bears down upon them all, Feyre endeavors to take her place amongst the High Fae of the land, balancing her struggle to master her powers-both magical and political-and her love for her court and family. Amidst these struggles, Feyre and Rhysand must decide whom to trust amongst the cunning and lethal High Lords, and hunt for allies in unexpected places.
In this thrilling third book in the #1 New York Times bestselling series from Sarah J. Maas, the fate of Feyre's world is at stake as armies grapple for power over the one thing that could destroy it.

So far this was my favorite book in this series.  I felt like we learned a lot about each of the characters in the book and the story keeps you sooooo engaged throughout the story. I cannot wait to get into the fourth book and learn more about what happens next.
Book #4:

First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston
Evie Porter has everything a nice, Southern girl could want: a perfect, doting boyfriend, a house with a white picket fence and a garden, a fancy group of friends. The only catch: Evie Porter doesn’t exist.
The identity comes first: Evie Porter. Once she’s given a name and location by her mysterious boss Mr. Smith, she learns everything there is to know about the town and the people in it. Then the mark: Ryan Sumner. The last piece of the puzzle is the job.
Evie isn’t privy to Mr. Smith’s real identity, but she knows this job will be different. Ryan has gotten under her skin, and she’s starting to envision a different sort of life for herself. But Evie can’t make any mistakes--especially after what happened last time.
Because the one thing she’s worked her entire life to keep clean, the one identity she could always go back to—her real identity—just walked right into this town. Evie Porter must stay one step ahead of her past while making sure there’s still a future in front of her. The stakes couldn't be higher--but then, Evie has always liked a challenge...

I joined a local book club in March and this was the book I was able to to attend.  The place I did the book club through has something like seven books clubs a month which is so much fun.  I am hoping to join other book clubs in the future because it really was just so much fun.  That being said, I enjoyed this book.  The whole concept of her pretending to be someone else the entire book while working to get back to your own identity was very interesting.  For a debut book, this author did a fantastic job.  I hope they write more books in the future.

I hope you found something today to read this next month.  Don’t forget…

If you want to stay current on all of the books I’m reading in 2024, THIS PAGE HERE is where I keep the books, authors and reviews each month.

Okay what should I read next? I'm always on the hunt for book recommendations and am fairly open to all stories.

Have a wonderful day,
Jackie
