Hi friends and happy Saturday! I hope your weekend is off to a great start and you are looking forward to a fun and relaxing day. We have a friend visiting form out of town and I am going to a pottery class later this evening so the weekend is shaping up to be super fun.
For today's post, I thought it would be fun to talk about National Book Lovers Day which is happening today and some things that you can do to celebrate too! So without delay, here's some things you can do today to celebrate.
Host your own book club
Book clubs are a great way to meet and connect with other book lovers so why not start a book club of your own? You can choose the frequency and timing of your book clubs whether that's monthly, quarterly or even yearly. Don't want to focus on one particular book? Why not start a Silent Book Club chapter in your area? You can get all the details here: https://silentbook.club.
Attend an event
Authors, publishers, librarians, booksellers, and readers have been hard at work creating amazing virtual and in-person events. Check your local Facebook events pages or library to get inspiration.
Support your local indie
Stop by your favorite bookstore to pick up some new books! If you don’t have a local indie, check out virtual storefronts on their websites and make a purchase. If buying books is not in the budget, no problem! You can still support your local indie book store by sharing about it on your socials and with your family and friends.
Visit your local library
When is the last time you went to your local library to check things out? Today would be a good day to get your library card and check out what options you have for reading books - you may be surprised what your options are for books through your library.
Fill your feed with amazing readers
Don't feel like going out, no problem! Get online and share some of your favorite bookish accounts - either TikTok, YouTube or Instagram. Make sure to give new people you come across a follow too.
Listen in
Spend the day with an audiobook! There are so many great ways to listen: Spotify, Libro.fm (which allows you to support your local bookstore), your local library’s digital catalog, or through the NetGalley Shelf app!
Reread an old favorite
Not sure what to read? Why not pick up an old favorite to read again? You could head to Middle Earth or drink with Gatsby. Could be a great way to spend your day.
Start a buddy read
National Book Lovers Day is the perfect time to connect with a friend and start reading together. Have a friend that likes the same books that you do? Why not ask them to read a book together. Not sure where to start, just text your friend and ask them to read a book with you. Or, join in on the buddy read I'm hosting with a friend this month: https://www.instagram.com/twostatessamepage.
Display your books in style
Do you have your books stored away in boxes or in storage? Why not take time today to get your books out and put them on a shelf to display.
Organize your bookshelves
If you're like me, your books are already on shelves but they could definitely use some help with styling/organization? Today would be a great day to get some organization done and take inventory of all of your books. Who knows - maybe you'll find a book you've been wanting to read but didn't know where it was at on your self.
Well that is all for today's post! I will be heading to my local indie book store today to check out one of their events then spending some quality time reading a book or two. I hope you are able to spend time reading today too! If so, be sure to comment below what you're reading.
Have a wonderful day,
Jackie
