25 Things To Do This Summer

Happy Summer Solstice everyone! I hope your hump day is going well so far and you are looking forward to enjoying the longest day of the year! Today I wanted to share a list of fun things to do this summer! These ideas are good for people of all ages and look to be a lot of fun.

25 Things To Do This Summer

  1. Go to a free music festival // Are you a big fan of music? Then why not attend a music festival in the area.  Often it is easy to find some for free or at little cost just by looking at the events in your city.
  2. Catch fireflies // This one is great for the kiddos, but can be fun as an adult.  Grab a jar and get out there to grab a few fireflies and enjoy how pretty they are {just make sure to let them go when you're done}.
  3. Do a walking tour of your city // One of the best ways to really get to know your city is by doing a walking tour.  Not sure where to start, check out the Country Walkers Website.
  4. Pick strawberries // Do you enjoy strawberries, then this is a great opportunity for you! Look at your local orchards and see when is the best time to pick strawberries.  In Michigan, it's mid to late June.
  5. Go stargazing on a warm summer night // When the summer finally hits the warm spot in the evenings, grab a blanket and go outside {but don't forget your bug spray}.
  6. Blow bubbles // Grab your bubble wand and get outside! There is something so fun about blowing bubbles and popping them.
  7. Make guilt-free popsicles // Summer is full of all kinds of delicious cold treats.  But sometimes those treats come with a lot of calories - so this year, why not make your own with less sugar and less calories? Pinterest has tons of options for a health alternative Popsicle.
  8. Take a road trip to the nearest beach or lake // In Michigan, we have a ton of lakes.  Pack up your cooler, hop in the car and spend a day or two at the beach.  There is nothing more relaxing that lounging in the sun by the water.
  9. Ride a bike // Grab a friend, grab your helmet and go! Bike rides are a great way to work out without too much planning.
  10. Throw a BBQ for family or friends // Another great part of summer is all of the BBQ you can make! Call your friends, have them bring a dish to pass and make some delicious food for everyone on the grill!
  11. Attend a parade // This is perfect for the 4th of July! Grab your chairs,  head into town and enjoy the parade!
  12. Play minigolf // Want a relatively night out with family? Head out to minigolf and play a few rounds.  Loser buys ice cream!
  13. Visit a free museum // Rainy day? No problem! Head out to the museum to see some neat things and get out of the rain.
  14. Go to the zoo // Animals love the warm weather as much as humans do so summer is the perfect time to get out to the zoo and see the animals! Like going often? why not grab a season pass?
  15. Go to the drive-in movies // Is there a movie you want to see? Why not switch it up and go to drive in movie? Grab some blankets, a mini van or truck and head out to a late movie.
  16. Walk barefoot // Take off your shoes and let your feet have the fun! Take a walk at the beach or the park and feel the grass in your toes.
  17. Go to a baseball game // Baseball is another great pastime this time of year, so grab your friends and go to a game! Want to save some money? Head out to a minor league game and have a great night out!
  18. Take a nap in a hammock // Have a hammock? Why not get out the hammock and enjoy lazing around for a few hours of down time.  If you happen to fall asleep, all the better!
  19. Play in a sprinkler // No matter how old you are, playing in a sprinkler is fun! Turn those bad boys on and cool off on a hot day!
  20. Watch fireworks // Another 4th of July event, look for the biggest show you can find in your area, grab a blanket and enjoy everything!
  21. Play flashlight tag // Another great game for kids and adults! Once the sun has set, grab your flash lights and head out for a fun game of flashlight tag or kick the can.
  22. Go to the Farmer's Market // The best place to get fresh groceries is your local Farmer's Market, so grab your bag, some cash and make your way to your local Farmer's Market for a fun afternoon of shopping.
  23. Make fun things with old pool noodles // Have some old pool noodles you're not sure what to do with? Why not make some fun things with them - Pinterest has a ton of ideas!
  24. Pack a picnic // Grab your thermal bag, head out to the park and enjoy lunch or dinner under the tree or on the beach.  This is a great idea for a family date or a night out with your significant other.
  25. Go thrift shopping or shop at garage sales // Looking to add some fun pieces to your house? Why not go thrift shopping or hit some local garage sales? Remember, one man's trash is another man's treasure.  You could find something perfect for that spot in your house that is in dire need of a change.
So what do you think? I am excited to attempt to do all of these items this summer! It is promising to be a nice summer in Michigan this year so I fully intend to get outside as much as I can throughout the next few months.

  1. My kids were running around the backyard chasing lightning bugs last night. Amazing how they fascinate generation after generation.
