Goals for my Thirties

Hello everyone! I hope you are having a good week and you find yourself happy and healthy.  Last week I turned 31 {I know, crazy right?} and I found myself taking a step back and re-assessing my goals for my thirties.  When I turned thirty last year, I had written out a bunch of goals that I wanted to accomplish over the next decade - some that are super ambitious and some more reasonable.

To be honest, I haven't even started working my way toward some of the goals - mostly due to being "too busy" but also due to the fact that 3 months of my first year in my 30s was entirely dedicated to staying home and staying safe.  Another part of it was me just not being in the right headspace to really actively pursue my dreams.  So much of pursuing your dreams is not only wanting them, but also being willing to 100% go all in.

So today, just over a week into my 31st year, I thought it would be fun to talk about my goals for my thirties!  So here we go!

1. Learn how to fly a small plane

For as long as I can remember, I have loved being in a plane and flying.  Some of my most fond memories are from traveling and an airplane has always been part of that memory.  So of course the next logical thing would be to learn how to fly a small plane.  This goal will be a bit of a loftier goal as it will be expensive, but I will have to figure it all out.

2. Learn Sign Language

This particular goal has been on my mind for quite some time.  I know a few basic things like the alphabet and how to say hello, but I'd really like to be able to communicate on a deeper level with the deaf community and provide support where I can.  I've already begun researching online courses and possibilities for me to really dive into learning sign language.

3. Learn how to hand embroider

This idea came from an Instagram account that one of my middle school teachers created.  She started posting a few handmade items on her own personal account which ultimately led to her creating her own Etsy shop and selling her items online.  I love her work and thought this would be an amazing way to have another creative outlet.

4. Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge

If you've been around the blog recently, then you know exactly what this is.  If you are new to the blog, let me give you a quick overview! During the Gilmore Girls series, Rory read a total of 339 books.  This past fall, my friend and I started reading through all of her books and you can follow along here.  So far I think we're about 10 books in, but at this rate we are looking at this taking 10 years.

5. Become a mom

One thing that has been on my heart lately is the desire to be a momma.  I'm not sure if it's because I'm in my 30s now, or if it is just because I feel ready but I really want to become a mom.  At this point, I am hoping we have our own baby but if that does not happen we will absolutely be open to any and all possibilities for having a child.

6. Have 100k in my savings account

So this goal is LOFTY - like almost borderline crazy.  But as we have been paying off non-essential (house and car) debt over the last 18 months, it has made me realize that I never want to be indebted to anyone again and having 100k in savings (while a huge amount) would also put us in the position that if we ever were to lose a job or have a personal emergency we would not be in a dire situation.  Once we have all of our debt tackled, I will be looking to build out a plan to start saving as much as we can.

7. Travel to {at least} two new countries

This one is a big one for me because I absolutely love to travel and I would really like to visit new countries.  Right now I have my mind set on visiting Ireland and Scotland as this is my heritage, but I feel like I could do them in one trip and potentially do other countries as well.  Another place I'd like to get to is Iceland! Maybe once the COVID-19 stuff dies down I will get to plan a few trips for us.

8. Finally lose the weight

If you've been around for a while {hi, hello thank you for still being here} then you know that weight has been something I have struggled with for all of my adult-life.  For me, one of my biggest issues is just not feeling great in my own body.  So my goal is to finally lose the 80+ pounds that I  am carrying around on my body.  This goal, while super simple to some, will be difficult for me as it goes way deeper than food for me.

Well I think that is all of my goals for now.  Right now the plan is to check in every few months on these to see if/what I've been doing to work toward achieving my goals.  The thought would be to focus on them one at a time, so the next step will be to decide which goal I want to focus on first.

I'd love to hear from you!
