Fort Sleepover 2021 {06.10.2021}

Happy Thursday Friends! I hope your week has wrapping up beautifully and you are looking forward to a fun weekend ahead.  We are making our way to the strawberry patch with Justin's family and I am so excited.

Today I wanted to do a quick recap post of our annual fort sleepover.  We started this fun and silly tradition back in 2013 where we would all get together and build a fort in my living room and spend the night.  Over the years, the fort sleepover has morphed and grown as Justin built an actual frame for the fort and we got a little more sophisticated in our design.

This year, Justin actually completely built the frame out of PVC piping to make it lighter and a little bit more flexible as far as the layout/setup goes.  Usually we are limited to the setup and this would allow us a little more room to change it up if we felt so inclined.  I am pretty happy to report that his design idea was awesome.

 In the past, I had everyone bring their own sheets so I didn't have to store a bunch at my house, but  last year I decided it would be easier if I just had a tote filled with all of the Fort Sleepover supplies.  This year Christina and I got a bunch of top sheets off of Facebook Marketplace for free and spent some time tie dying the sheets (hello nostalgia!).  I also got some fun lights off Amazon for the fort so we do not need to keep using my Christmas tree lights.  The lights have a remote so we don't have to dig around for the cord to unplug them in the middle of the night, and they're super cute!

So here's how the fort works:

1. Everyone brings a drink or snack to pass.  This year I had a ton of leftover alcohol from my friend's bachelorette party so we used that for this year's sleepover.  Then everyone brought snacks - we had veggies/dip, buffalo chicken dip, chips and salsa, and all kinds of delicious cookies and sweets.  I had meant to take a photo but totally forgot.

2. Once we all get some food in our bellies and grab a drink, the fort building commences.  This consists of us standing on couches, chairs or whatever thing we can to get the sheets up over the frame of the fort and in place.  Justin added small strips of wood to the PVC so we can easily push pin the sheets to the frame.  Once the sheets are in place, we then string up the lights to get some fun lighting in there.

3. After the hard work is done, we hang out in the fort eating snacks and drinking until we pass out.  This also consists of watching movies, chatting, playing card games, taking a ridiculous amount of photos of ourselves and falling asleep.  This year we played Cards Against Disney, did some mad libs and fell asleep to the new Cruella movie.  Have you seen it? It's awesome!

I think that is all of the steps for building and sleeping in a fort in my living room.  It makes me so happy that my friends still like to do fun and silly things like building forts in my living room and I hope we can continue to do this even as we all have children (1/2 of us do now) and have families of our own.

That is all for today! What fun traditions do you have with your friends or family? Let me know in the comments section below.
