Blogmas Day 11: DIY Christmas Wreath {12.11.2021}

Happy Saturday friends! I am so happy that it's the weekend and we are having a small Christmas get together with our friends tonight.  Today I thought it would be fun to share a DIY Christmas wreath that I made with you all.  I got the idea from Come Stay Awhile over on her Instagram, but I spruced it up a little bit to be more festive for the holiday seasons.

Before we get into the how to of this post, I want to let you all know that some links below will be affiliate links which means I will get a very small commission if you click the link and purchase an item.  I do not share links to products that I would not personally use myself, but wanted to be transparent with you all before we move forward.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Because I was doing a festive wreath, I was focusing on pine and berries for my florals and I got a few Christmas ornament looking pieces to add a little more festivity to my wreath.  I like that they were foam balls instead of real ornaments so if something happens and the wreath falls, they are less likely to break on impact.

ASSEMBLY:

The first step is to start your glue gun.  My glue gun is a bit old, so it can take a little while for it to warm up and melt the glue.  So my first step is to always plug that in so it has time to get going.  I also always put a paper plate or napkin under it in case it drips (just a little trick I learned).

Before I started gluing anything, I played around with my florals on the wreath to see how full/not full I wanted everything.  I ended up cutting off a few of the branches off the pine branches and the berry branch because it overpowered the wreath too much.  Once I had my layout picked out, I used a pair of wire cutters to cut down the florals to the appropriate size.

After I had made my plan of how I wanted everything to look once it was finished, I started gluing the 1.5" half wooden balls to the wreath.  I just did this but putting a big dab of glue on the back of the ball then sticking the ball down onto the wreath.  I was a little worried this would not work too well since the wreath was skinnier, but I had no problem getting them to stick to the wreath.

Once all of the wooden balls were stuck onto the wreath, I starting putting my florals on.  For the first step, I used hot glue to get the pine florals stuck down onto the wreath.  Once those were stuck onto the wreath, I added the berries on top with the hot glue to add a little dimension and color.  Once they were all glued down, I used my floral wire to secure them a little more tightly to the wreath.  This step isn't necessary, but with hot glue it won't hold as long.  The wire ensures everything stays in place and doesn't slide around.  After I had all the wires in place, I added a small dab of glue on them to help keep them in place as well and to protect any doors/walls on which the wreath would be hung.

The last step was to add the ornaments to the wreath.  I actually ended up taking them off the wire and gluing them directly to the wreath which required a LOT of glue.  But once they were on, they were very secure.  I loved how they added a nice bright pop of color and added some more festiveness to the wreath.

Once all the glue dries, you are all set! I am super excited with how the wreath turned out.  I ended up hanging it on the door to our basement which is in our kitchen area.  It makes me smile every time I look at it and I'm excited to leave it up for a few weeks.

Well that is everything for today! Thank you for stopping by - be sure to come back tomorrow for Day 12 of Blogmas!
