Blogmas Day 8: Holiday Things to Do in Michigan {12.08.2021}

Happy Wednesday friends and welcome to day 8 of Blogmas! Today I am sharing a list of fun Winter/Holiday themed things to do around Michigan.  The list is going to focus primarily on southeast Michigan, but there may be a few other things thrown in for those of you that live more in northern Michigan.  I love finding fun things to do when the weather is a bit dreary and you need a good pick me up.

Things to do in Michigan this Winter

1. Meadow Brook Hall's Holiday WalkIf you have not had a chance to check out Meadowbrook in the winter, I highly recommend checking it out.  You get to walk through the house and see all the beautiful decorations and really see the house in all of it's glory.  This event runs from November 26-December 23, 2021.  Note: You need to purchase a ticket ahead of time so be sure to check out their website.

2. Meadowbrook Winter Wonder Lights.  Prefer to do an outdoor event versus touring the mansion? Then go no further than to check out the Winter Wonder Lights at Meadowbrook.  The self-guided tour is filled with beautiful lights and makes for a great outdoor adventure.  Like the Holiday Walk, you need to get your tickets in advanced for this advent.

3. Magic of Lights at DTE.  Another fun light tour is the Magic of Lights at DTE Energy.  Unlike Winter Wonder Lights, Magic of Lights is a drive through light show.  Justin and I checked it out last year and it was a lot of fun.  You tune your radio to a station and the lights dance in time with the music as you drive around the show.  You will also need a ticket for this one as well.

4. Ice Skate in Campus Martius.  If you like a little more active festivity, then you should check out the rink in Campus Martius.  Every year the ice skating rink is set up and surrounded by beautiful trees and pretty lights and it makes for a beautiful visit to downtown Detroit.

5. Downtown Detroit Markets and Cadillac Lodge.  While you're downtown, be sure to check out the markets and Cadillac Lodge.  Every year they set up this super cute market where local vendors come and sell their awesome products.  They're all set up very cute in little buildings and you can get yourself a hot beverage while you walk around and check everything out.

6. Glenlore Trails presents Aurora.  I have not been able to try this one out yet, but from everything I've seen it looks amazing! Michigan’s original illuminated forest that has a one mile outdoor path with interactive, story moments, and other entertainment.  This one is an outdoor walk so make sure to dress warmly and be prepared to get some hot beverages after.

7. Eat out in an Igloo.  There are several places which have igloo dining, so why not make your way to a local restaurant and spend time dining in an outdoor igloo.  The link I posted has a list of 50+ igloo-friendly restaurants.  Be sure to check it out!

8. Michigan Renaissance Festival HollyDazzle.  Another fun outdoor lighted experience, check out the HollyDazzle event.  A 3/4 mile walk around the Renaissance Festival grounds that comes with fun holiday-themed lights.

9. Tunnel of Lights - Warren.  This one is a free event that happens on Eiffel Street in Warren.  The neighbors on the street decorate with over 100,000 lights and provide a dazzling event for locals to come and check them out.  This one does not require a ticket, just head on over to 12 mile and Schoenherr to see them for yourself.

10. Go skiing or snowboarding.  With it being colder now in Michigan, this is the perfect time to head out to your local ski hill and dust off your board.  Don't have your own skis/board? No problem! Most places will have rentals available. I tried snowboarding a few years ago and let me tell you it's not as easy as it looks, but I had a ton of fun trying it!

Well that is everything for today! I hope you enjoyed the list and are getting into the holiday spirit as we get nearer to the holidays.  Come back tomorrow for Blogmas Day 9!
