February 2022 Reads {03.03.2022}

Happy Thursday friends! I hope your week has been going well and you're getting ready for a fun weekend ahead.  I'm looking forward to a quiet weekend filled with reading and organizing.  Oh and maybe some shopping.  I feel like I need more St. Patrick's Day decorations so I will be on the hunt for those and getting some yarn for some baby blankets.

For today's post I thought it would be fun to share a quick review of the books I read/started in January and share the books I have on my agenda for this month.  If you've been keeping up, then you know I have a goal to read 40 books this year which is about 3.5 books a month from now until December.  I'm happy to share that I hit my goal for February and I've got all of my books picked out for March!  I've got so many books on my to be read list that there's really no reason for me to not hit my goal this year.  So here's my review of the books I read/started in February.

Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell.

I started this book in late January so it ended up being my first book I finished in February.  Overall I really liked the story, but there were times that it felt a little slow to me.  I understand why Lisa Jewell had to give as much information as she did in order to set the story, but I was well over 2/3 into the book before I felt like it got really good.

Overall I would give the book a 3.5/5.  It's a good story with some twists and turns and it keeps you on your toes towards the end, but the writing was a bit slow at time.  I'm not sure if that is just me, but my friend that also read the book said she felt the same.  If you like thrillers though, I'd recommend checking out this book.

I picked this book up on a whim while browsing recommendations on the library website and I am so glad I did.  Jodi Picoult released this book in November of last year so it was a new book too.  And I could tell - I will say it was weird reading a book that had so heavily to do with COVID because we are still living with COVID.  The storyline was so good and so interesting and there is a major twist in the book too!

I would definitely give this book a 4.5/5 stars.  I enjoyed it from beginning to end and honestly think I may even read it again to see if she left any hints throughout the book as to what was coming.

Have you read a Jasmine Guillory book before? If not, I would check them out.  They're so fun and such a great read/listen.  I started listening to this book a while back, but never finished it for whatever reason, so I decided this was the month to finally finish the book.  AND I'm glad I did.  Such a fun, heart-felt ending that I really needed when I was having a particularly bad day.

Overall this book would also get a 3.5/5.  It's a cute story and kept me engaged, but it was a little bit predictable.  Which really is not a bad thing - I like books that I'm able to figure out.  But with romance/comedy type books I tend to like to be a little bit surprised.  The overall storyline is great and I'd love to see it put into a movie.

Midnight Spells Murder by Mary Angela.

Another book club book from my Once Upon a Book Club Christmas box.  Like I mentioned last month, I didn't actually get the book until mid-January so I started this a bit later.  But to be honest, it was just as magical reading this in February as it would have been in December.

The book is written by the same person that gave us A Christmas Prince movies on Netflix, Karen Schaler outdid herself with this story as well.  So fun and magical and perfect for the Christmas (or in my case not-Christmas season).

Overall, I'd give this book a 4 out of 5.  I really enjoyed the read and have thought about it a few times since I finished it.  I actually am thinking of getting more of her books because I enjoyed this one so much.

Well that is all for my reviews this month! Have you read any of these books? If so, I'd love to hear what you thought and get your feedback.
