UPDATE: Travel Bucket List {09.08.22}

Hello friends! I hope this post finds you happy, healthy and peaceful.  Last year I put together a bucket list of things that I wanted to do around Michigan and I'm happy to share that I've been able to cross a few items off the list since I did that post a little over a year ago! So I thought I would hop on and share my thoughts on the items I completed on my list.

Michigan Bucket List

1. Whiting Forest Canopy Walk: Walk the nation's longest canopy walk in the Whiting Forest of Dow Gardens. I am so excited to share that I went to do the canopy walk last Fall with my friend, Kevin.  They live not too far away from the Canopy Walk so we made a plan to go for the day and check it out.  It was so fun walking around the canopy and we ended up being there at the same time as some friends of ours so of course we spent some time with them too.  I definitely plan to go back there again because it was just so fun.

2. Go to the Tulip Festival in Holland.  This past May mom and I made our way up to Holland for the weekend to check out the beautiful tulips.  We stayed at this cute little bed and breakfast and spent the day walking around the checking out the flowers in town and at Windmill Park.  We then spent the evening driving to the beach and watching the sunset.  Overall it was such a wonderful weekend and I'd really like to go back again in the future.

3. Wine and Chocolate Boat Tour in Frankenmuth.  Another item I checked off the bucket list last fall! My friend wanted to go for her birthday last September so her and a few of us ended up heading up for the day.  The boat tour and tasting was so much fun and came with several samples of chocolate and wine and it was delicious.  I love going to Frankenmuth and the weather was absolutely beautiful.  After the boat tour we made our way around and did some shopping and enjoyed the downtown area.  I actually got one of my favorite sweaters while we were there too and cannot wait for it to be cool enough in Michigan to wear it again.

4. Visit a lavender farm in the summer.  My friend Vicki and I made it a point to go and get some lavender this summer and it was so much fun! There are several places around Michigan where you can go and pick your own, so we picked one that worked best for both of us and ended up going to Romeo Lavender Farm.  Everything was very nicely organized - we went to the little barn and paid to pick our flowers. Then you're set free to go and enjoy the picking.  I will note, I am not a huge fan of bees so it was a bit hard for me to get down into the plant and cut them at first, but once I got passed that I was fine.  I ended up drying out my lavender to use as decoration year round and even a few months later it smells SO good.

Items Still on My List

1. Visit the Turnip Rock in Port Austin.  This is one of the more tourist-y spots in Michigan, but I do not think I have visited Port Austin and I didn't know the Turnip Rock existed until last week.  This one will require a little more planning as visiting it will be dependent upon renting kayaks and the weather.  I'm hoping to convince one of my friends to go with me over there and do it.  Doesn't it just look so cool?

2. Visit Pictured Rocks in Munising, MI.  This one is up in the Upper Peninsula so we will need to plan a trip up to my in-law's cabin to do this one.  Did you see that a 200-foot front of the cliffs fell into the water in late June? Michigan has some crazy weather with a ton of rain/flooding which impacted a lot of the state.  Check out the video here.

3. Visit Tahquamenon Falls in Newberry Michigan.  I've visited Tahquamenon Falls once in the dead of winter when they were completely frozen over which was absolutely beautiful, but I have not been able to go back since.  I'd really like to hike out to the falls in the summer and see the waterfall.
Well I think that is everything that I have for now.  I am sure as time goes on I will come across more things that will be added to my Michigan bucket list.  Oh! And when I get the chance to check one of the items off my list I will be sure to update this post with a link to the post about the place I visited.

4. Shop at the Eastern Market in Detroit. So many people have talked about shopping at the Eastern Market and I have never been.  Even when I was working downtown I still never made my way over there to check things out.  I would really like to go down there this fall to check out the fall florals they have for sale.

5. Stay in this A Frame in Indian River.  A few months ago I was randomly looking for fun places to stay around Michigan for a girls trip (before we landed on something more local) and I came across this A Frame on AirBNB.  I'm debating booking a romantic trip for Justin and I to head up there for our anniversary, but I'm not sure we could swing the time off of work for that.  Still need to talk to him about it.

6. Climb up the Sleeping Bear Dunes.  I visited Traverse City a few times in the last few years with my girlfriends and my mom and it is one of my favorite places to visit in Michigan.  However, I have not done the Sleeping Bear Dunes since I was a teenager and I'd really like to do them again.

Question of the Day: What places do you want to visit in your home state? Also, if you're local I'm looking for recommendations for places to add to my list.
