January Reads {02.07.24}

Hello friends and happy Wednesday.  I hope this post finds you well and you are looking forward to the month ahead.  Today I am picking up a new "old" series that I had started in 2022.  I have a goal in 2024 to read a total of 12 books (which is fairly low but I have struggled the last few years to actually read books so I have refocused myself for 2024 and plan to read more than my goal of 12 and share my monthly reads with you all.

So without further adieu... It’s the first BOOK REVIEW OF 2024!

Book #1 this month was:

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus

This is a fictional story of a woman chemist in 1950 who works hard to make herself known in the science community but ends up getting caught up in the times and ends up making an afternoon television show about cooking based in science.

I really enjoyed the book.  It was the first book I listened to as part of Spotify Premium's book offerings and I am so glad I listened to it.  The story flows very nicely and I really with there was a second book to read.  I will give a warning that there are a few scenes in the book that might be upsetting to some (talks about assault) so if you're sensitive to that, please be forewarned.

Book #2:

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
I have been recommended this book so many times by friends and online so I asked for the set for Christmas and thankfully Justin got it for me.  If you are into fantasy, then this series will definitely be for you.  The whole premise of the book (and series) is the relationship between the Fae and Humans.  When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world.
I've heard so many things about this series that I had very high expectations about the book and ultimately it did not disappoint.  However, I will provide the caveat that it has a bit of a slower start than you'd expect for a series everyone is fawning over. But once I hit chapter 30, I was hooked and could not wait to read the next book (which I've already started).

Book #3:

Sales, Secrets and Suspects by Sally Bayless
I randomly came across this series when it was a fill your Kindle day.  The first book, Antiques, Artifacts and Alibis, was a fun and cozy read so I immediately moved into the second book once I finished the first one.  The stories take place in a quiet, sleepy town called Dogwood Springs, but when their new museum director moves to town, things start to get exciting.
If you like a cozy mystery, then I'd highly recommend this series for you.  It is fun, sweet and has super adorable golden retriever.

I hope you found something today to read this next month.  Don’t forget…

If you want to stay current on all of the books I’m reading in 2024, THIS PAGE HERE is where I keep the books, authors and reviews each month.

Okay what should I read next? I'm always on the hunt for book recommendations and am fairly open to all stories.

Have a wonderful day,
Jackie
