Labor Day Weekend 2021 {09.09.2021}

Happy Thursday friends! I hope your week has been going well so far and you're looking forward to a fun weekend ahead.  This weekend we have a few fun things on the agenda, but overall it will be a quiet weekend.

Today's post is going to focus on our quick little trip to the Upper Peninsula for the weekend.  For the past 13+ years, Justin and I have made our way up to his parents cabin for Labor Day weekend for a weekend filled with relaxation, beautiful views and great company and this year was no different.

Saturday

Justin's parents picked us up bright and early to make our way up to the cabin.  The cabin is about 5 1/2 hours away without bathroom breaks, so by the time we made our few bathroom stops and grabbed food, we arrived to the cabin in the early afternoon.  The weather was a bit rainy, so we unloaded the car and headed into town to grab a few groceries and miscellaneous items my in-laws needed for the weekend.

My very favorite Chinese food place is in their local town, so of course we had to grab Chinese for dinner (because let's be real, we only get it from there 2-3 times a year) and we spent the evening watching movies, opening Pokémon cards and relaxing in the cabin.

Sunday

Sunday morning we slept in a little before going into town to grab breakfast at one of the local restaurants, Cedar Street Cafe.  We also took some time to look at all the new murals downtown that I had not seen before.  This little town has some very cute murals so, of course, I had to grab a photo of the one we walked past.

The original plan for Sunday afternoon was to check Pictured Rocks off my Michigan Bucket List, but mother nature had other plans which resulted in the Pictured Rocks cruise being canceled.  Of course I was a little bummed that we didn't get to go, but we ended up walking out to the local lighthouse and enjoying a walk by the beach.  The evening ended with a pretty sunset by the lake and another night of fun movies.

The best part about us visiting the lighthouse on that day is we had walked to the lighthouse on that same day 10 years earlier just before Justin and I got married.  How cool that 10 years later, we ended up in the same place as we were.  It's crazy to think how much has changed over the past 10 years.

We spent the evening on Sunday with a campfire and another movie.  I think we watched a good chunk of Clueless.  What a throwback (also, I now know why I wasn't allowed to watch that when I was little haha).

Monday

Monday I slept in way too late - not sure what happened but I apparently needed to sleep.  We spent the morning in town at another fun breakfast place for a late breakfast/brunch before heading back to the cabin.  Because the summer was coming to a close, we spent Monday helping Justin's dad get the boats out of the water and getting things ready for winter.  It was fun learning how everything worked and I even got a fun little boat ride out of it.  I love being on the water and enjoyed the one-on-one time with Justin's dad.

Before heading in for the evening, I happened to catch a rainbow on the lake while we were getting things out of the water.  Justin and I ran into town and grabbed stuff for dinner and we enjoyed a nice evening filled with chatting, movies and an early bed time.

Tuesday

Tuesday we spent the day closing up the cabin and making our way home.  Michigan saw some nasty weather so the drive home was a bit precarious, but we made it home safely in time for me to do a few loads of laundry and get unpacked and prepared for the rest of the work week.

I am so glad that we had the opportunity to get up north for the weekend with Justin's parents.  It's always nice to get some time with them and get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.  It was exactly what my soul needed after the last few months of chaos.

Well that's everything for today's post! I hope you enjoyed the post and have a great rest of your week! I'm working on an apple picking post for those that are local that I am planning to post tomorrow or Saturday, so be sure to check that out.
